Nicholas Rider
I am a Sydney-based journalist, with a passion for B2B content, and a photographer, always on the lookout for intriguing light.
Journalism
I am currently the Deputy Editor of Retail World and Convenience World, writing and assisting in managing content across both print and digital, servicing the supermarket, petrol and convenience, and FMCG industries.
Previously, I was a Content Producer at Architecture & Design, writing daily news for an audience of Australian architects, builders and design professionals. I also wrote features and projects for A&D’s Infolink | BPN Magazine, Australia’s longest running and circulating trade magazine within the architecture, building and design space.
In addition, my writing has been published by the likes of The Australian, Retail Pharmacy, Retail Pharmacy Assistants and Hysteria Magazine.
Photography
While my photography portfolio boasts a strong selection of portraiture, live music and travel work, it also displays my diverse skillset with a range of event, architecture, food and press photography. No matter the subject, my eye for striking light, shape and emotion is always present.
My photos have appeared in publications such as The Australian, Sydney Morning Herald, Australian Financial Review, Daily Telegraph and Qantas Travel Insider. I have also photographed work for Opera Australia, Life Music Media and theEAR.
Further information
I was born and bred in Sydney, and currently live here with my wife Jess and cat Leroy.
I graduated from Macquarie University with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Media, Culture and Communication.
Beyond my writing and photography work, I am a music nerd (I still buy CD’s), and art lover (Picasso, Rembrandt and Bill Henson are among my favourites). I am also a reader of music biographies (if I had to pick a favourite, I’d probably go with Dave Grohl’s This Is A Call or Travis Barker’s Can I Say), and drinker of bourbon and sour beers (when I’m not working).
